Welcome
The State Board works closely with the Department of Education, state policymakers, and educators to review, develop and adopt regulations that govern significant components of both basic and higher education in the Commonwealth. From approving state academic standards for Pennsylvania’s students to setting policies that help ensure our educators are effective in delivering related instruction, the Board places considerable emphasis on stakeholder involvement in its policymaking. In redesigning this site, we’ve strived for even greater transparency to connect you with our deliberations.

Notice of Public Hearings on Chapter 49

Due to unanticipated conflicts, the public hearing on the Secretary of Education’s proposed changes to Chapter 49 (Certification of Professional Personnel) scheduled for April 23 at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit will be postponed.  The State Board of Education is in the process of identifying a new date to convene the hearing.  A new hearing will be scheduled no earlier than June 3, 2019, and you will be notified via email as soon as a new hearing date is confirmed.  In the interim, the Board will continue to accept written comments on Chapter 49.  Written comments can be submitted at ra-stateboardofed@pa.gov.
